The Grains

We work with two exceptional farmers who show that respect for the land and great flavour go hand in hand.

Luke Wilson

In the Cotswold hills, Luke Wilson grows Plumage Archer barley — a heritage grain once prized for its depth and character. On soils long worn thin by intensive farming, Luke is bringing life back through mixed farming. Herbal leys build fertility and feed cattle before grains are sown, restoring balance to the land.

Following in the footsteps of his father, David Wilson, who reintroduced Plumage Archer for its genetic diversity and natural resilience, Luke now grows it organically, rebuilding soil health and biodiversity. Just twenty minutes away from our brewery, at Warminster Maltings, his barley is floor-malted the traditional way — slow, hands-on, and full of character.

Fred Price

In Somerset, Fred Price grows YQ Wheat and has long championed agroecological farming. His once-conventional farm is now a flourishing landscape — alive with pigs, wildlife, and thriving soils.

By eliminating chemical inputs and stepping outside the commodities market, Fred has built farm sovereignty, producing food with integrity and resilience. As part of the South West Grain Network, he also helps share and grow diverse grains like YQ Wheat across the region.

We use raw YQ Wheat in our brews — a reminder that true flavour begins in the field, with farmers who work with nature, not against it.
